Zaki Ibrahim - Heartbeat (with Dubmattix) - Every Opposite
She just gets better and better..
Song of the day.
Lianne la Havas - Forget - Forget EP.
Fresh from the UK, along with many new artists of her ‘kind’, and by this I mean, indie, interesting, and innovative.
She reminds me of Andreya Triana (who sang on a couple of Bonobo’s tracks on his album Black Sands.) Her voice is smooth, and her melodies are delicious, this song just takes you somewhere else!
Oh and p.s.
Here’s a great remix of her single.
So cool.

Bonobo - Stay the Same Ft. Andreya Triana - Black Sands
I’m going to the Bonobo concert in a couple of weeks and in preparation for the great experience that I am sure I will enjoy, I’ve been listening to this song on repeat.
Timing is interesting. The words cut right through me, making a whole lotta sense these days.

Rolling Stones - You Gotta Move - Sticky Fingers
This song represents my recent trip to New York perfectly. Didn’t hurt that a new friend belted it out and melted my heart with her incredibly interesting voice and her impeccable timing.

Ikebe Shakedown - No Answer - Afro Funk 45
With an unnerving validity, a new outlook on Afro-Funk and a vibe that really can’t be bought, these guys bring a freshness to a very historical genre. And they’re from Brooklyn! If you love Fela Kuti, you will love them, guaranteed.
Also check out Kumasi Walk.

Bonobo - Days to Come Ft. Bajka- Days to Come
Cymbals! Cymbals! Cymballss!
I love this song, I love this album, and I just adore Bonobo…so give him a listen!
Also check out Nightlite Ft. Bajka, too good not to share!
Song of the day.
Jamie Woon - Lady Luck - Mirrorwriting
Fresh on the scene, with a voice like butter and a great sense of melody. One song and you’re hooked! He has backed up Amy Winehouse and is probably known for his single Night Air, co-produced by Burial!
If you like him, also check out Spirals (my personal fave)
Song of the day.
Blundetto Ft. Hindi Zahra - Voices - Bad Bad Things
If you haven’t heard of Hindi Zahra, she’s has a refreshing and mesmerizing sound. A blend of soul/jazz/folk/african styles, with a voice like no other!
Check out Kiss & thrills and At the same time (I couldn’t resist a song that started with “Here comes the time, For my heart to heal the past”)
Enjoy!

Sade - All About Our Love - Lovers Rock
One of the best vocalists of all time! With an album out in early February of last year, entitled Soldier of Love after a 10 year hiatus, she found a way back into our hearts.
She always finds a way to soothe the soul.
Song of the day.
Etta James - Security - Her Best (also found on 13 of her other albums)
This is a cover of Otis Redding’s original, although I like this one better. I’ve been in love with this song for years, and no one does it quite like Etta!
Song of the day.
Frank Ocean - Swim Good - Nostalgia ULTRA EP 2011
He’s fresh on the scene and very talented. You can see where he gets his influences from but respect him for what he can do with that inspiration. I love this song, I’ve been listening to it on repeat all week, I never want to stop! He’s got a great ear for beats and talks about things we all want to hear him talk about. Big things coming from this one. A fantastic mixtape.
Check out a great interview he’s done here: http://www.complex.com/music/2011/03/who-is-frank-ocean/

The Bar-Kays - Soul Finger - Soul Finger (1967)
I went through a massive funk phase a few years ago, looks like I’ve caught the bug all over again!
A classic performed by greats.

Nujabes - Reflection Eternal - Modal Soul
Nujabes was a Japanese hip hop producer and DJ who tragically passed away too young in February of last year.
I can listen to him for breakfast, lunch and dinner. He had the ability to capture moments and moods perfectly. He was known to use Jazz samples, which has made me love him more.
If you like this, please also check out Love (Sic) Pt. 1 (one of my favourites) Kumomi, and Aruarian Dance among many more. He has collaborated with all kinds of artists from across the world and the results are clearly seen in his music.

I can’t choose which version I love more.
Bob Marley & The Wailers - Mellow Mood (Live) - Songs of Freedom
